"A five-alarm fire destroyed an entire block in Hampton, New Hampshire on February 26, 2010 including an oceanfront hotel.

No one was hurt. The hotel was empty for the winter.

Investigators say the fire broke out around midnight on the first floor of the three-story Surf Hotel on Ocean Boulevard. It was fanned by winds of near hurricane force and quickly spread to adjacent buildings, engulfing them.

Eight-to-12 other businesses were damaged and about a dozen people in the neighborhood were evacuated.

160 firefighters were called in. The fire was finally brought under control around 4:30 a.m.

There’s no word yet on how it started.

The glow from the flames could be seen from miles away, a witness said.

Damaged is estimated in the millions of dollars. " WMUR News 9.

I woke up about 8AM that morning and saw on the news what had happened a mile away from my house. The night before we had hurricane force winds that added strength to the fire. I went down there with my camera and couldn’t believe what I had witnessed.

Just after midnight on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 units of the San Jose Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in one unit of an occupied single-story duplex.

Upon their arrival firefighters discovered heavy fire spreading throughout the structure. After conducting a primary search to confirm all occupants were out of the building crews were ordered out of the structure.

With flames through the roof, Incident Commander Susan Salinger called for a transition to defensive operations.

As flames consumed the roof of the structure Truck 13 opened up with an aerial master stream. The bulk of the fire was knocked down after an hour of hard work.
